Instant Pot Sausage Pasta

This pasta combines our Mild Italian Sausage with other classic Italian flavours like onion, garlic, tomato, oregano and Parmigiano Reggiano. Thankfully, you have plenty of time to make seconds!

What You Need

  • 1 package Johnsonville Mild Italian Sausages, cut into 1/2" medallions
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • parsley, finely chopped for garnish
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 1/2 cups penne pasta, approximate
  • 1/2 can diced tomatoes, approximately 14 oz
  • 2 tsps fresh oregano
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1 cup Parmigiano Reggiano, shredded


  1. Set Instant Pot to saute and add oil, sausage medallions, red pepper and onion. Regularly flip sausage and stir onions until sausage is cooked through and onions are translucent. Add garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

  2. Add broth, cream, pasta, tomatoes and oregano. Combine well and ensure pasta is submerged. Use manual setting on Instant Pot for six minutes. Turn valve to Vent for quick release pressure. 

  3. Add spinach to pasta mixture while keeping Instant Pot set to warm. Mix well and cover pot (do not latch) for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Add Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and stir in to melt. Let pasta sit for approximately 3-5 minutes, or until sauce has reached desired thickness.
